Education Unlimited provides residential and commuter summer camps, summer programs and summer study opportunties for students entering grades 4-12. Loadsys was selected to deliver a new design for the web site and automate many of its functions, which included an administrative portal that allows administrators to manage online applications, update staff information, and completely manage camp information. The entire system is built on the CakePHP framework.

Using Structured Frameworks Like CakePHP

Loadsys has been in business a long while. Building and designing web applications using PHP. We initially started building site management systems using our own developed file structure. No templates, no smarty, just straight mixed up, stirred, PHP and html. That is exactly what it was. PHP with a bunch of echos everywhere to display the html dynamically.

When designing a system for multiuser environment, it is always important to know who created and who modified a record. When using proper field names, such as created and modified, CakePHP automatically sets the proper dates values. We wanted to use the same principal for automatically setting user ID of who created and modified a record.
